Sheriff Clarke just received a much warmer welcome at the Midwest Airlines Center today than he regularly receives at the county Courthouse. He talked about Gov. Doyle’s early release plan in the state budget–and the dangers of releasing violent offenders into the streets to, supposedly, cut costs.
Sheriff Clarke had a great offer for Doyle: I’ll support this early release plan if you’ll put a provision in the budget allowing Wisconsin citizens to carry a firearm to defend themselves against the felons you want to release. As you can imagine, that was well received by the crowd here.
We’re running behind schedule here. Everyone’s grabbing their box lunches for the “noon” session, then off to break-out sessions after that.
