Christians on “Terrorist” List – Have Army “Values” Changed?

ImageIt’s not the first time the U.S. Army has been in hot water with Evangelical Christians, and this time it it boils down to a training exercise that listed “Evangelical Christians” and “Catholics” as “examples of extremism” and refers to the American Family Association and Family Research Council as “domestic hate groups.”  

Wisconsin Family Action president Julaine Appling responds, “To target faith-based organizations for their Christian viewpoint is an outright act of disrespect to fellow Americans exercising their first amendment rights,” states Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Council, “The line has been crossed when our soldiers, who defend our constitutional freedoms, are bullied by the very government they serve.  We, too, expect an apology on behalf of our courageous military men and women, and our Christian ally organizations.”

A U.S. Army officer sent an email to dozens of subordinates listing the American Family Association and Family Research Council as “domestic hate groups” because they oppose homosexuality — and warned officers to monitor soldiers who might be supporters of the groups.

At least a dozen members of Congress have signed a letter demanding the Secretary of the Army rescind and apologize for a briefing that labeled Evangelical Christians and Catholics as religious extremist groups…..

“This is astonishing and offensive,” read a draft of the letter written 

Imageby Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO). “We call on you to rescind this briefing and apologize for its content and set the record straight on the Army’s view on these faith groups by providing a balanced briefing on religious extremism.”
