A standing-room-only crowd packed the Legislative Chamber in the City County Government Building Monday night as the Fond du Lac City Council brought a controversial non-discrimination proposal back for a vote.
After listening to some 70 people comment on the proposal to prohibit discrimination on the basis of “gender identity or expression,” Council voted 5-1 against the proposal with Dan Manning casting the lone dissenting vote. Councilwoman Catherine Block abstained from the ballot.
Manning, the first openly gay member of Council, had proposed the amendment to the current city fair housing ordinance.
