The National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships

Today I’m blogging from the National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships. This is the fourth year my family has participated in the NCHBC and it is always a trip. I flew in last night–just in time for the opening ceremony. The atmosphere at the U of M stadium was electric as the fans watched the All Americans face off in exhibition games. There are somewhere around 355 homeschool basketball teams here from over 20 states. Wisconsin has four homeschool athletic associations at nationals and they always do well.

If you haven’t seen hundreds of homeschool basketball families in one place at the same time, you are really missing out on something extraordinary. Families drive for hours, sometimes days, to make the pilgrimage to the championships every year. Siblings sit through hours of stressful games all week long to cheer on their sisters and brothers. By the end of the week everyone is hoarse from cheering and exhausted from playing in or cheering for up to three or four games a day. The entire week is a testament to the hard work of homeschool parents to give their children an opportunity to compete at the national level, and the pride and loyalty of their siblings and fans.

Half-time is up in 10 seconds so I’m going to sign off for now.

I proudly send kudos to the WCHSA’ers, wishing them our best! If you see the Gumness family in that mob…we’re cheering here at home!

One of our guys played on the All American #3 team for Coach Gumness at Nationals this week. We’ve been playing WCHSA for years–great team. If I see them tomorrow I’ll let them know you’re cheering.
